According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department, Fatemeh Abbasi, Deputy for Rehabilitation of the State Welfare Organization, stated that due to the urgent needs of families with children on the autism spectrum—and following requests from many of these families—a comprehensive review was conducted regarding the challenges they face, particularly in caring for individuals with severe and profound autism. This led to a decision to expand, enhance, and diversify specialized services designed for this group.Abbasi noted that the purpose of establishing these centers is to support families and provide them with an opportunity to rest and regain strength in order to better care for their children. She added that eligible individuals admitted to these centers benefit from rehabilitation, educational, artistic, and recreational services. Currently, eight temporary residence centers for persons with autism spectrum disorder are active in the provinces of Kermanshah, North Khorasan, Razavi Khorasan, Kerman, East Azerbaijan, Isfahan, Tehran, and Yazd. Three of these centers—in Yazd, North Khorasan, and Kermanshah—were launched within the past six months.
It should be noted that admission to these facilities is temporary and does not imply permanent placement or severing ties with the family. The centers are categorized into two groups: one for children aged 5 to 14, and another for individuals aged 15 and above.
