SWO to File Complaints with International Bodies Over War-Induced Harm to Children and Disabled Individuals

The head of Iran’s State Welfare Organization announced that the organization is preparing to file official complaints with international bodies regarding the harm inflicted by US and Israeli attacks on its affiliated groups, including children and individuals with disabilities.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs of the State Welfare Organization, vulnerable groups under the organization’s coverage, such as female-headed households, orphaned and abandoned children, individuals with disabilities, and families with multiple births, have been or are at serious risk due to the aggressive attacks by the US and the Israeli regime on Iran.

Seyed Javad Hosseini, the head of the State Welfare Organization, stated in a meeting held to ensure the continuity of services to the target community that the organization is responsible for protecting the rights of female-headed households, children, individuals with disabilities, as well as orphaned and abandoned children. They also support families with multiple births.

He added that currently, over 42,041 families with multiple births are under coverage. Additionally, 17,940 children benefit from relief services, and approximately 10,000 children and adolescents are housed and rehabilitated in 700 semi-family centers.

He also referred to other supportive centers, mentioning that a large number of individuals are supported in “safe houses,” “health houses,” and “effort houses,” totaling nearly 100 centers. Furthermore, centers related to social harms and addiction, including TC centers, Article 15 and 16 camps, rehabilitation and welfare centers, and nearly 3,500 rehabilitation centers, are operational. A significant number also receive services through home visits, in-home care, and day centers.

The head of the State Welfare Organization emphasized that the aggressive attacks by the Israeli regime and the US have endangered these groups, and the responsibility for this harm lies with those who initiated this illogical war.

He continued by stating that the Welfare Organization has a duty to care for these individuals, but one of their responsibilities is to pursue the damages caused by the war, especially to children and individuals with disabilities, in international forums.

Hosseini added that they are in the process of filing complaints regarding these issues with organizations such as UNICEF, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (which has 50 articles, a significant portion dedicated to the rights of people with disabilities in conditions of danger, war, and crises), and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Hosseini noted that these follow-ups with international bodies are currently underway.
