Methods of raising awareness among the public for social integration in Iran

The head of State welfare organization emphasized at the UN summit: Iran has taken great steps towards empowering people with disabilities and guaranteeing their rights by approving the law on the protection of the rights of people with disabilities and implementing comprehensive rehabilitation, education and employment programs.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs, Dr. Seyed Javad Hosseini, head of the State welfare organization, explained Iran's measures in the field of protecting the rights of people with disabilities in his speech at the 18th session of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the United Nations headquarters in New York. In his speech, he said: The Islamic Republic of Iran ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2009 and submitted its report in this regard. Also, in 2017, Iran's initial report was reviewed. Hosseini stated: In 2018, the Islamic Republic of Iran passed the National Law on the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities with 10 chapters and 34 articles, and based on this law and the Universal Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, extensive programs have been implemented in the areas of adaptation, accessibility, health and medical services, rehabilitation, education, employment, housing, marriage, and empowerment of persons with disabilities. He continued: Among these measures is raising public awareness about the rights of persons with disabilities, which, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science, has produced educational content and appropriate images to combat false stereotypes. The head of the State Welfare Organization emphasized: We have supported the works of art of persons with disabilities, held various campaigns for socialization and social integration, and fought against undesirable stereotypes, and the use of new technologies and artificial intelligence to raise public awareness is also on the agenda. He added: "The role of people with disabilities in achieving sustainable development, by utilizing their unique capabilities and capacities, especially their lived experiences, has always been of special concern. Empowering these people is one of the main priorities of our planning, which is achieved through the implementation of community-based programs, the quantitative and qualitative improvement of the participation of people's organizations of the disabled, and the development of their participatory ecosystem."
