Over 10,000 Individuals with Disabilities Benefit from 130 Rural Art Centers

Fatemah Abbasi, Deputy for Rehabilitation at the Welfare Organization, announced that 130 rural art centers have been equipped to ensure equitable access to services. These centers have provided art-based services to over 10,400 individuals with disabilities residing in underprivileged and remote areas.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of the Welfare Organization, Abbasi highlighted the significance of mental health for the target community, especially in challenging circumstances. She stated that art therapy programs are designed to reduce anxiety, create safe spaces for emotional expression, and enhance the sense of psychological security among individuals with disabilities during crises.

She added that these initiatives not only foster social interaction and self-confidence among beneficiaries but also serve as effective tools for processing difficult experiences and improving their psychological resilience.

Detailing the executive models implemented by her department in rehabilitation centers, Abbasi explained that current art therapy activities are conducted both in-person and virtually. These include “art therapy” for visual emotional expression, “music therapy” for deep relaxation, “drama therapy” for recognizing social roles, “handicrafts” to improve focus, and “creative writing.”

Abbasi also reported the production of specialized content in this field, with 52 educational films on art therapy for children with disabilities being created and uploaded to the Aparat platform. These films serve as valuable resources for families, educators, and researchers.

Equipping 1,610 Centers and Supporting Rural Art Hubs

Reviewing the achievements of the year 1404 (Persian calendar), Abbasi noted the implementation of targeted infrastructural measures. A key among these was equipping 1,610 day and overnight rehabilitation centers with dedicated rooms for drama and music therapy.

Furthermore, to promote equitable access to services, 130 rural art centers were equipped, benefiting over 10,400 individuals with disabilities in remote and underserved regions.

Achievements of Individuals with Disabilities on National and International Stages

Concluding her remarks, Abbasi touched upon significant cultural events. She mentioned the organization of six regional theater festivals for individuals with disabilities, ten provincial visual arts exhibitions, and support for 135 artistic groups to undertake cultural tours. Additionally, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, individuals with disabilities were enabled to actively participate in the inclusive section of the 44th International Fajr Theater Festival, marking a significant step towards integrating cultural and rehabilitation capacities at national and international levels.
