According to the report of Public Relations and International Affairs, Dr. Seyed Javad Hosseini, Deputy Minister and Head of State Welfare Organization, while participating in the program "Keshik Salamat" of the Salamat network, said about the importance of paying attention to the issue of the aging of the population: Iran's society is entering the state of old age. The head of State welfare organization stated that Iran is entering old age in the state of the society and added: we are moving towards old age very fast and in 2050 our population will be very old and we will be considered one of the oldest countries.
Referring to the feminization of the elderly in the country, Dr. Hosseini said: Currently, there are 92 elderly men for every 100 elderly women, and this number is increasing. Out of the 9 million elderly people in the country, 57 thousand of them are female headed of the household.
He continued: All these issues make us realize the importance of old age, but there are 2 views on old age; A threat-oriented view and an opportunity-oriented view. In the threat-oriented view, the aging period is considered expensive, full of patients, along with the bankruptcy of insurance funds and society without productive forces.
The head of State welfare organization added: But in the opportunity-oriented view that in our religious culture, the elderly is considered absolute value, they see the elderly as a pillar of society and a source of cohesion and harmony, and wherever these pillars are damaged, the society will suffer. Even from an economic point of view, the elderly is placed in the period of silver profit because they can be skilled and cheap labor in the society from the age of 52 to 75.
He also announced the drafting of a comprehensive law for the protection of the elderly and said: "in cooperation of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution and the Majlis Research Center, we are drafting this bill and it will be presented to the parliament soon."
